چکیده

Acquired flatfoot deformity caused by dysfunction of the posterior tibial tendon is a common clinical problem. Treatment, which depends on the severity of the symptoms and the stage of the disease, includes nonoperative options, such as rest, administration of antiinflammatory medication, and immobilization, as well as operative options, such as tendon transfer, calcaneal osteotomy, and several methods of arthrodesis.

Effect of extra-osseous talotarsal stabilization on posterior tibial tendon strain in hyperpronating feet.

Posterior tibial tendon dysfunction is considered one of the most common causes of progressive adult acquired flatfoot deformity. The etiology leading to the dysfunction of posterior tibial tendon remains controversial. The purpose of this study was to quantify strain on the posterior tibial tendon in cadaver feet exhibiting hyperpronation caused by flexible instability of the talotarsal joint ...

Hallux valgus, ankle osteoarthrosis and adult acquired flatfoot deformity: a review of three common foot and ankle pathologies and their treatments

The pathogenesis of hallux valgus deformity is multifactorial. Conservative treatment can alleviate pain but is unable to correct the deformity. Surgical treatment must be adapted to the type and severity of the deformity. Success of surgical treatment ranges from 80% to 95%, and complication rates range from 10% to 30%.Ankle osteoarthrosis most commonly occurs as a consequence of trauma. Ankle...

Anatomy, pathophysiology and classification of posterior tibial tendon dysfunction.

OBJECTIVE Adult acquired flatfoot deformity is generally associated with a collapsing medial longitudinal arch and a progressive loss of strength of the posterior tibial tendon (PTT). This condition is commonly associated with PTT dysfunction or rupture, which can have an arthritic or a traumatic etiology. Several causes have been proposed to explain the clinical evidence of tendon degeneration...

Surgical treatment of the adult acquired flexible flatfoot.

In this review article, the authors give an overview of the currently available soft tissue and bony procedures in the treatment of the adult acquired flexible flatfoot. Instead of starting from the classification for posterior tibial tendon dysfunction, described by Johnson and Storm, the authors address the flatfoot from a more anatomical point of view. Based on this, they will try to define ...
